Being a Co-captain
in the Share the Care Program
Thank you so much for volunteering your time to help interested members achieve their RCI-related goals and tasks. You have or will receive an excel file listing all the members, their contact information and their "talents." Here's a description of what happens and what will be expected of you.
Briefly Share the Care looks like this: every two weeks one RCI officer and one person from the general membership function as captain and co-captain. It is their responsibility, for two weeks only, to field questions and requests from the board, the officers and the general membership and then find answers and solutions. That means finding the right person for the job--the person with the answer or who can take on a task.
To facilitate their work, the captain and co-captain draw from the RCI Talent Pool. Here’s an example.
Let’s say the RCI treasurer wants to make an Excel spreadsheet for a special project. While she’s familiar with the basics of the Excel program she needs help in creating formulas. Using Share the Care strategy, the treasurer would email the current captain and co-captain with her request for help. The captain or co-captain would then refer to the Talent Pool, under ‘Computer Programs’ and find those members who have said that they are terrific or good with Excel, then ask for their help and put them in touch with the treasurer. And now the special project could proceed.
Specific Duties of the Co-captain
Please reply to those people who send in requests to let them know that you got their e-mails. Then forward the request on to your co-captain. You might want to discuss with your co-captain who of the people on the talents list would be best suited to fulfill the request. Contact the person on the talents list (the e-mails are listed at the top under their names), and ask him or her to help. When the person agrees to perform the task, send him or her the name of the person who requested the help. You are the point person and should stay in touch with both people until you know the job has been completed (or resolved). Be sure to pass this information on to the other co-captain and the person who follows you as co-captain.
Please send Catherine Campaigne a note describing the request and the completion of the task so that she can keep track of what kinds of requests we're getting and if we can supply the person to fill the need. If you need any help, please contact Catherine.
